3. Lavender and Calendula Salve

Lavender and calendula are a powerful duo when it comes to natural skincare. This simple DIY salve recipe combines the soothing, calming properties of lavender with the healing, anti-inflammatory benefits of calendula. Perfect for treating dry skin, minor cuts, and scrapes, this all-purpose salve is a must-have in your natural skincare routine.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup dried calendula flowers 🌼
  • 1/2 cup dried lavender buds 🌿
  • 1 cup olive oil or sweet almond oil
  • 1/4 cup beeswax pellets
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops calendula essential oil (optional)
  • 1 vitamin E capsule (optional, as a preservative)

Instructions:

  1. Infuse the Oil:

    • In a clean glass jar, combine the dried calendula flowers and lavender buds.
    • Pour the olive oil or sweet almond oil over the herbs until they are completely submerged.
    • Seal the jar and place it in a warm, sunny spot for 2-4 weeks, shaking it gently every day to help the infusion process.
    • Alternatively, you can gently heat the mixture in a double boiler for 2-3 hours on low heat if you’re short on time.
  2. Strain the Herbs:

    • After the infusion period, strain the oil through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, discarding the herbs.
    • Your infused oil is now ready to be turned into a salve.
  3. Melt the Beeswax:

    • In a double boiler or a heat-safe bowl set over a pot of simmering water, combine the infused oil with the beeswax pellets.
    • Stir until the beeswax is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add Essential Oils:

    • Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool slightly.
    • Stir in the lavender essential oil and, if using, the calendula essential oil and vitamin E oil.
  5. Pour and Cool:

    • Pour the mixture into clean, dry tins or glass jars.
    • Let the salve cool and harden completely before sealing the containers.
  6. Store:

    • Store your Lavender & Calendula Salve in a cool, dry place. It should keep for up to a year.

How to Use:

  • Apply a small amount of the salve to dry skin, minor cuts, burns, or any area that needs soothing and healing.
  • Massage gently until absorbed.
